Professor Russell McClain coordinates the development and implementation of initiatives to increase the admission, retention, and graduation of students of color, and students from other underrepresented groups, and works with a variety of departments to foster a campus environment that recognizes, celebrates, and values diversity. He also offers one-on-one counseling and support for students, and conducts diversity student orientation workshops.
Dean McClain recently published a book, The Guide to Belonging in Law School, which offers a mini-immersion in the law school experience for students from diverse backgrounds. He also authored “Helping Our Students Reach Their Full Potential: The Insidious Consequences of Ignoring Stereotype Threat” in the Rutgers Race and the Law Review and “Bottled at the Source, Recapturing the Essence of Academic Support as a Primary Tool of Education Equity for Minority Law Students” in the Maryland Law Journal of Race, Religion, Gender, and Class.
