Mr. Fitch is Reporter for the American Bar Association Criminal Justice/ Mental Health Standards project; Consultant to the National Association of State Mental Health Program Directors (NASMHPD); Affiliated Faculty at the University of Virginia's Institute of Law, Psychiatry and Public Polcy (ILPPP); and former Director of Forensic Services for Maryland’s Mental Hygiene Administration (1994- 2013). He has served on the adjunct faculty at the University of Maryland Carey School of Law since 1995. From 1982-1994, Mr. Fitch was an Associate Professor at the University of Virginia Law School and Director of the Forensic Evaluation Training and Research Center at the University’s ILPPP. From 1978-1982, he was a Research Attorney with the Institute on Mental Disability and the Law at the National Center for State Courts. A member of the Editorial Board of the Journal of the American Academy of Psychiatry and the Law, Mr. Fitch has published numerous journal articles, book chapters, and monographs on a variety of psycholegal issues and has chaired or served on committees of the American Bar Association, the American Psychiatric Association, NASMHPD's National Research Institute, and other national and state organizations.
