John A. Roberts practiced law for 30 years with major Baltimore law firms, including Venable LLP and Semmes, Bowen & Semmes, P.C., representing clients primarily in commercial bankruptcy and insolvency matters. Before entering private practice, he served as counsel to the secretary of the Maryland Department of Employment and Training. He has been a presenter, panelist, and moderator for presentations on bankruptcy law and unemployment insurance law for the Bankruptcy Bar Association of Maryland, the American Institute for Professional Development, ALFA International, and other organizations. He has also co-authored books, articles, and seminar materials on bankruptcy law, Maryland unemployment insurance law, and the law of conscription. He received his undergraduate degree in History from the University of California at Irvine, and his JD from the University of Baltimore School of Law.
