Kim Smaczniak will be joining the U.S. State Department to serve as an international climate change negotiator, pending a security clearance. She most recently served as Democratic Counsel at the U.S. Senate Environment and Public Works Committee, and previously as a Trial Attorney at the U.S Department of Justice Environmental Defense Section. Her practice included defending federal environmental rules in the federal Circuit courts, prosecuting violations of wetland protection laws, and a wide variety of environmental litigation in federal district courts. Professor Smaczniak was a member of the team that successfully defended EPA's Greenhouse Gas rules from a stay in the D.C. Circuit, and was nominated by the Environment and Natural Resources Division for the U.S. Department of Justice John Marshall Award.
