The University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law is well represented in this year’s Maryland Daily Record Leaders in Law list, with three faculty members and 10 alums recognized.
The Leaders in Law awards pay tribute to the ways in which legal professionals are serving businesses, clients and individuals across the state and making Maryland’s businesses and communities stronger.
All four 2026 Lifetime Achievement Honorees are affiliated with Maryland Carey Law. Honorees are Professor Emeritus Larry Gibson, James Hanks ’67 (Venable LLP), Thomas Ries ’79 (Wasserman White Family Law, LLC), and Cornelia Bright Gordon ’80 (Maryland Legal Aid).
Maryland Carey Law faculty also swept the Legal Educator awards. Professor Leigh Goodmark, associate dean for research and faculty development; and Professor Will Moon are the only two recipients.
Sarah Coffey Bowes ’04 (Civil Justice, Inc.) is one of the two Civil Legal Services honorees, and Sara Gross ’04 (Baltimore City Department of Law) is one of five In-House Counsel awardees.
The Leadership in Law category includes William Minkin ’96 (Peter Angelos Law), Ryan Perlin ’05 (Malarkey Perlin, LLC), and David Sommer ’02 (Gallagher LLP). Patrick Dillon ’17 (Shapiro Sher) and Trey Hilberg ’17 (Miles & Stockbridge P.C.) are named to the Generation J.D. list.
Honorees will be celebrated at an event on April 20.
