2025 Maryland-Pace Student Colloquium Huge Sucess

All News

On April 3, 2025, three Maryland Carey Law students presented research papers at the Elisabeth Haub School of Law at Pace University in White Plains, New York. The presenters from Maryland Carey Law were:

  • Emily Rudo, Burdened Communities, Beleaguered Wombs & Barren Choices: The Impact of Dobbs on Reproductive and Environmental Justice
  • John Mauro Gloninger, Baltimore’s Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System & Environmental Justice
  • Sydney Schuster, The Aftermath of Coastal Wildfires and the Revocation of Environmental Policies

The student colloquium emerged from a pandemic program between Pace | Haub and Maryland Carey Law’s Environmental Law Programs where faculty and alumni from both schools presented their research. In 2022, Prof Achinthi Vithanage, Pace | Haub Environmental Law Program Associate Director, suggested a different approach: make it a student-focused event. Both schools eagerly embraced the idea of providing a platform for our impressive cohort of student scholars whose work is being published and recognized in journals across the country.

In Spring 2022, the colloquium was hosted virtually and featured the scholarship of twelve students from Pace | Haub Maryland’s Environmental Law Programs. In Fall 2022, the Colloquium went in-person and showcased a panel of clinic students from the Pace Environmental Litigation Clinic and Maryland Carey Law's Environmental Law Clinic as well as a student panel of research paper presentations at Maryland Carey Law. During the 2023-24 academic year, Maryland Carey Law hosted the student colloquium in conjunction with the Fedder Lecture and Wine Tasting and the Spring edition was held at Pace | Haub Law, beginning a tradition with Maryland Carey Law hosting in the Fall and Pace | Haub Law hosting the Spring edition in conjunction with their Garrison Lecture and Earth Day Jam.

Since its inception, the program has provided the opportunity for more than 50 students to present research papers, receive feedback and spark interesting discussions among Maryland Carey Law and Pace | Haub students and faculty on a wide range of environmental issues. Our thanks to Emily, John and Sydney for their outstanding work representing the Environmental Law Program at Maryland Carey Law. We look forward to hosting the next installment November 21, 2025 in conjunction with the Fedder Lecture and Wine Tasting.
