From March 24 through March 27, students, faculty, and alumni gathered for a week filled with engaging discussions, networking opportunities, and career-building events. The week highlighted the diverse world of business law, offering a variety of events designed to inspire and educate all attendees.

JBTL Symposium

Business Law Week kicked off with the Journal of Business and Technology Law’s 2025 Symposium: Corporate Law Forum, featuring a high-caliber group of panelists. The evening began with a Welcome Reception, where attendees had the chance to network over drinks and hors d'oeuvres, setting a positive tone for the symposium. The first panel, titled "Emerging Corporate Jurisdictions: Viable Alternatives to Delaware?", sparked lively discussion on the growing trend of companies incorporating outside Delaware. Panelists such as Keith Paul Bishop, Wendy Couture, and Christine Hurt analyzed corporate governance, fiduciary duties, litigation risks, and tax advantages that are influencing this shift. The second panel, "Incorporating or Restructuring Abroad: Legal, Financial, and Strategic Considerations", explored the complex factors behind companies choosing to incorporate or restructure abroad. Esteemed experts like Christopher Bruner and Martin Sybblis offered a deep dive into the benefits and risks of international corporate law, comparing alternative jurisdictions to the Delaware model.

Health Law Brown Bag

On Wednesday, March 26, the Health Law Brown Bag session provided valuable insights into the overlap of health law and corporate law. Led by Asha Scielzo, President of the American Health Law Association (AHLA), the session explored the latest trends in health law and how students can leverage AHLA resources to build successful careers in the field. The event was not only informative but also a great opportunity for students to engage in discussions over a casual lunch. Pizza was served, making it the perfect midday break for attendees interested in the intersection of business and health law. The event was sponsored by the Health Care & Law Program.

Norman P. Ramsey Distinguished Lecture

The flagship event of Business Law Week, the Norman P. Ramsey Distinguished Lecture, featured Columbia Law Professor Dorothy S. Lund delivering a lecture on her "Purposeful Enterprise" theory. Her talk examined how nonprofit organizations can thrive without shareholder control. Drawing on insights from behavioral economics and organizational science, Professor Lund explained how aligning a company’s purpose with its business model can drive long-term success and sustainability. The lecture was an invaluable opportunity for students and faculty alike to think outside the existing framework of corporations.

Business Law Track Inductee Lunch

On Thursday, March 27, the Business Law Track hosted its 1L Inductee Lunch, welcoming the newest members of the Business Law Track with a friendly and informal gathering. Students had the opportunity to learn more about the Business Law Program while also participating in professional headshot sessions.
