ADR Team Announcements
Maryland Carey Law’s ADR Team continues to have an active and successful season with five competitions, a Top Four Showcase, and try-outs for next year’s team planned for the Spring semester.
Welcoming Daniel Adamson. This semester the team welcomed back former ADR Team member and president, Daniel Adamson (’18), in the role of adjunct professor. Mr. Adamson is a commercial litigator with Miles & Stockbridge in Baltimore where he routinely represents clients in statutory and tort claims, insurance recovery, and products liability matters. He describes his two years on the ADR Team and in the Mediation Clinic as “some of the most meaningful experiences in law school,” which continues to inform his approach to resolving disputes for clients. As adjunct professor teaching mediation advocacy for the ADR Team, Mr. Adamson is looking forward to helping the next generation of students sharpen their skills and build their legal careers.
National Finals of the ABA Law Student Division Negotiation Competition. After advancing from the regional competition to the national finals, the team of Nathan Holliman (’25) and Julia Baddley (‘26) participated in three rounds of negotiation over two days. They finished the competition as semi-finalists, just missing advancing to the final round. Barry Gogel (’97) coached the team in both the regional and national competitions.
Tulane Law School Professional Football Negotiation Competition. The Maryland ADR Team represented by Connor Lemma (’25), Cameron Coughlin (’26), and Zuha Hameed (’26), along with their coach, Justin Meltzer (’21) had a strong showing in this year’s competition, reaching a deal in each of their three negotiation sessions.
ABA Law Student Division Representation in Mediation Regional Competition. For the first time in three years, the ADR Team participated in the representation in mediation competition. Seeded second going into the regional finals, the team of Emily Sedlack (’25) and Sakshi Das (’26) was narrowly edged out in the final round. The students received support from coach Michael Goldberg (’14) in the week leading up to the competition.
International Academy of Dispute Resolution International Law School Mediation Tournament. Three students from the ADR Team and their coach, traveled to the University of Georgia School of Law in Tbilisi, Georgia to join twenty-two other teams in a three-day mediation tournament. After three rounds of competition all three members of the Maryland Carey Law Team received recognition with Sophia Skorup (’26) and Sara Devaraj (’25) placing 5th in overall attorney-client team and Renae Lee (’25) awarded 10th place overall in the mediator category. Their coach, Toby Guerin (’02) was honored with the Jeff Steele Coach of the Year Award.
Honoring Vincent Andrews
It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of the recent passing of ADR Team member Vincent Andrews (’16) this past January. Vince will be remembered as a dedicated husband, father, public servant, and attorney. Vince is described as having “a life defined by his passion for service to the community, education, and love of family and friends.” He is survived by his wife, Dr. Ilana Nelson-Greenberg and their young son Olivier who is expecting a younger brother this March. A former classmate of Vince’s, Alex Montanio described him as some who “had big ideas about everything and he was happy to chat with anyone about them. I’m sorry we won’t see some more of those ideas come to fruition.” From the Maryland ADR Team family, we extend our sincere sympathies to all of Vince’s friends and family.
