The Maryland Carey Law ADR Team concluded the fall semester by bringing home top honors from the 2023 Securities Dispute Resolution Triathlon hosted by the Hugh L. Carey Center for Dispute Resolution, St. John’s University School of Law and the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority. The ADR Team achieved 1st place in the overall competition, 2nd place in the mediation round, and 2nd place in the Arbitration Round, and was recognized with 3rd place Advocate’s Choice Award. The competitors were Simon Liu ‘24, Nikita Vozenilek ’23, and Toby Wirth ’23 (clockwise below), with coaching and support from Professor Toby Guerin ‘02, Alec Prechtel ‘19, James Egerton-Vernon, Victoriia Korynevych, and Nick Vogt ’19.
In the ABA Law Student Division Regional Negotiation Competition, the team of Barczak ’24, Guiv ’24, Brunson ’24, and Hagens ’24 finished among the top schools and will advance to the National Negotiation Competition in early February. In addition, the team of Jordan Brunson and Kennedy Hagens finished strong in the top half among all teams. The teams were coached by adjunct Professor Barry Gogel ’97. The ADR Team looks forward to continuing its successful streak in the upcoming spring negotiation and mediation competitions.
