The University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law offers a series of externships and foreign study opportunities, as part of the International and Comparative Law Program. Because the practice of law is increasingly global in nature, the educational objectives of these opportunities for our students are as follows:
- To provide students additional opportunities to gain familiarity with laws and legal systems outside the United States;
- To give students the experience of interacting with lawyers from other legal systems to help establish their global professional networks and to understand how lawyers in non-US legal systems handle legal matters; and
- To help students build intercultural awareness and intercultural legal skills.
