Bankruptcy Moot Court
Course Description
In this course, students will examine intellectually challenging, real-world issues in the bankruptcy field through a carefully crafted hypothetical problem. Guided by experienced coaches and sitting bankruptcy judges from around the nation, participants will develop crucial legal skills, including advanced legal research, persuasive writing, and appellate advocacy. The course structure includes the drafting and filing of briefs, weekly oral argument practice sessions, and participation in regional and national rounds. Enrollment in the course requires attending student meetings that begin in December and end in early March, and travel and participation on weekends. The competition offers a valuable platform for students to engage in bankruptcy scholarship, practice, and advocacy. Students are expected to actively engage in all aspects of the course, including practice sessions, feedback sessions, and regional/national competitions. The final competition is held at St. John’s University School of Law in New York City where fellow law students from around the country will also be participants.
