This course will focus on advanced legal research methodologies and strategies within the context of federal and state law. It includes coverage of legislation and legislative history, regulations and regulatory history, agency decisions and websites, foreign and international law, treatises, looseleaf services, electronic databases, practice materials, and strategies for making sure that your research is thorough. This course satisfies the Advanced Legal Research requirement and is not available to students who have already taken one of the Advanced Legal Research courses.

The course will be taught in a distance learning format through Blackboard during approximately the first half of the semester. There will be no regularly scheduled classroom meetings. Course modules will track the coverage listed above. There will be deadlines throughout the course for completion of the modules, which will include a variety of components including guided exercises, online presentations, discussion board postings and short open-ended research projects. A substantial portion of the grade may consist of performance on a final research project on an assigned topic.
