This course is a requirement for students enrolled in Public Interest Externships.

The course will provide an opportunity for students to share their public interest externship experiences and to provide students with a practical understanding of public interest law practice. Students participate in a bi-weekly workshop with readings, discussions and presentations related to public interest law practice and the role of pro bono work in public interest law. Class sessions on: civility, professional networking and mentorship; interviewing clients and maintaining professional relationships with clients and communities; role of bar associations and importance of pro bono and community service; media relations; professional development and developing a grant proposal and exploring the various options for public interest post-graduate employment opportunities. The workshop is required for and available only to students who are currently enrolled in an approved public interest externship. Ms. Schmiedeler will assist students in finding public interest externships responsive to the student’s interests.
