Clean Energy Law & Policy
Course Description
This course lies at the crossroads of energy law and environmental law to explore the rapidly growing and exciting field of clean energy. It will cover fundamentals of clean energy, including both supply-side sources of energy (e.g. renewable energy) and demand-side energy strategies (e.g. energy efficiency). Students will learn the relevant legal frameworks that shape clean energy, including utility regulation, infrastructure siting and financing, contract law, and international treaties/agreements. his course will also utilize case studies and class discussion to explore clean energy policy issues associated with climate change, national security, cost, and justice. This course will further provide students with opportunities to engage with legal practitioners and technical experts in the field.
Students receive 3.0 credits for this course with a final paper of 25-30 pages on a seminar-related topic of the student’s choice. This final paper may satisfy the law school’s Advanced Level Writing Requirement.
