JustAdvice ® Project
Course Description
The JustAdvice® Project is a one-semester course offering that engages students in weekly brief-legal advice sessions that aim to address Maryland’s justice gap. Students in the JustAdvice® Project will conduct intake interviews; identify and research legal issues; and work with volunteer attorneys to give brief legal advice to individuals seeking assistance at JustAdvice® sessions. In addition to providing help to individuals in the community, the course aims to teach law students how to conduct intakes and quickly identify legal issues in a variety of fields - a critical skills for those considering working in a small firm.
Law students enrolled in the JustAdvice® Project will also have the opportunity to work in an interdisciplinary manner with students from the School of Social Work. Students will be graded on a credit/no credit basis.
Note that the first class of the semester meets at the law school, and then class will be active client sessions at the UMB Community Engagement Center, about a mile (.7) away from the law school.
