Externship Workshop / Asper Judicial Fellowship Workshop

Course Description

This Workshop is designed as a complement to experiential learning for students who are enrolled in an externship or Asper judicial fellowship during the summer. The one-credit class for credit/no credit(not graded) will meet online in the summer. Students will participate in guided discussion and reflection about assigned readings and their externship experiences, hear from guest speakers in a range of legal and law-related work settings, prepare reflective memoranda on their externships, with an emphasis on supervisor feedback, professional development and writing proficiency. The course will cover such topics as thoughtful decision-making, networking, professional relationship building with supervisors and colleagues, career planning, and other areas key to the rewarding practice of any profession. Furthermore, summer externships and this workshop will provide students the opportunity to gain practice insights while gaining invaluable real-world experience.

Please note the following mandatory prerequisite before any approval of summer externships and workshop registration: Students interested in summer externships and this workshop must schedule a meeting with Teresa Schmiedeler, Senior Managing Director, Public Service & Externships to discuss the approval and registration process before any approvals for summer externships.
