Regulating Emerging Technologies

Course Description

This course will explore issues that arise at the intersection of the regulation of emerging technologies and consumer protection writ large. It will include consideration of a range of different technological developments, including advances in genetics, artificial intelligence, and fintech. It will examine the ways in which these technological developments are impacting markets and challenging the existing legal and regulatory frameworks protecting the public, adopting as our lens the impacts on the public citizen. Students will be asked to consider not just the legal issues, but also the ethical and policy issues, raised by these emerging technologies and the ways in which they are being used.
