Survivors of Violence Clinic
Course Description
Survivors of violence and trauma often have significant needs that are not met through criminal prosecution. The Survivors of Violence Clinic (formerly the Justice for Victims of Crime Clinic) is a one semester, six credit clinic that represents clients who have experienced physical and/or sexual assault, intimate partner violence, gun violence, and/or systemic trauma. Student attorneys in the clinic have an opportunity to work on a wide variety of legal matters, including but not limited to immigration proceedings, Child in Need of Assistance (CINA) matters, family law cases, and compensation claims. Through direct representation of clients, students in the clinic will explore how race, gender, nationality, and poverty affect perceptions of victimization and the response of the legal system. This clinic offers students the opportunity to litigate, represent clients in administrative law matters, and work on legislative and policy initiatives. This clinic will be offered in fall 2023 as a one-semester clinic for six credits. All students enrolled in fall clinic will be required to attend in-person clinic orientation on Monday, August 21, 2023, in addition to any clinic-specific orientation that the professor may schedule.
