Race and the Law Seminar: the Maryland Experience

Course Description

This seminar will research and discuss Maryland legal and political history on matters of race, with special focus on the efforts of African-American lawyers in enhancing equal opportunity in education, employment, criminal justice, and political participation. Substantial attention will be given to identifying and examining original courts records, biographical materials, and real time press accounts of historically significant events. Each student will produce a substantial research paper, which may be written to satisfy the Advanced Writing Requirement.
